Last Resort: vegan colourways (all canvas)

Updated 7 October 2024:

Last Resort aka Last Resort AB is a skate shoe company co-owned by Swedish skate pro and artiste Pontus Alv.

Since Last Resort was founded by Pontus Alv in the year 2020, they have only made animal-source leather (suede) and some canvas colourways of the "VM001" and "VM003" (some high and low ones). The canvas shoes are priced exactly the same as the the leather shoes.

Note: The canvas is not some really heavy-duty canvas like 1990s Dickies jackets or the 2013 Ed Templeton "Tempster" shoes (Emerica). But it's not as thin as in Vans canvas Era shoes.

Last Resorts "motto" is:
"Shoes made by and for Skateboarders around the world".
The critic (not cynic but critic) would note though that the slogan seems to be taking the difference between "made by" and "having them made" (in Vietnam, probably not by the local skate scene) a bit too lightly.
The defence would say that practially all shoes are made in China and Vietnam (because China has become too expensive) and that if Last Resort would manufacture shoes in Portugal (for example), the shoes would be even more expensive. Then there would be no Last Resort, leaving only the N company, the other N company, and so on. And that's true. So, I would like to like Last Resort. And they are not extremely unpopular among skaters in Germany (from my observation).

I personally think the VM 001 and the VM003 are not the best-looking skate shoes ever - but I have bad taste.

Which Last Resort shoes are vegan?

The Last Resort website has a section "CANVAS/VEGAN".

Side note: For me, the website doesn't really work very well (Brave browser).

In that "vegan" section, however, they also include non-vegan (suede) shoes (hello, Sole Tech!).

When you click on the shoes, they do not always say whether the shoes are vegan (unlike the Sole Tech websites).

Nevertheless, the following shoes seem to be vegan. Better double-check if there is any leather before buying.

Note: The leather-look-alike part around the ankles is polyurethane (PU, i.e., not leather).

VM001 (vegan):

VM001-Lo Canvas Black/Black

VM001-Hi Canvas Black/Black

VM001-Lo Canvas Black/White ("100% vegan friendly")

The VM001 colourways above are currently on the Last Resort website (as of 6 October 2024). However, I have seen some additional all-canvas colourways:

VM001-Lo x Julian Smith Yellow/Brown

VM001-Lo x Julian Plum/Dirty Blue

VM001-Lo x Julian Kelly Green/Blue

VM001-Lo True Blue/White

VM001-Hi True Blue/White

Might not be vegan (old VM001 canvas colourway):

Be sure to double-check the section around the laces and on the heel. In all the shoes shown here, these sections are also all-canvas. However, there seem to be some older (?) canvas colourways (for example, emerald green) that have a suede stripe around the laces - this may or may not be real suede. Some online stores did describe it as "Vegan Suede Overlays" and "faux suede".

See here --> dark green canvas VM001 shoe with suede or vegan suede around the laces and on the heel section:

VM003 (vegan):

VM003-Lo Canvas Black/White ("100% Vegan friendly")

VM003-Hi Canvas Black/White ("100% Vegan friendly")

VM003-Lo Canvas White/White ("100% Vegan friendly")

VM003-Hi Canvas White/White ("100% Vegan friendly")

VM003-Lo Canvas Burnt Olive/White (the website says: "100% Vegan friendly")

VM003-Lo Canvas Patriot Blue/White ("100% Vegan friendly")

VM003-Hi Canvas Patriot Blue/White ("100% Vegan friendly")

VM003-Lo Canvas Full Oxblood ("100% Vegan friendly")

VM003-Hi Canvas Full Oxblood ("100% Vegan friendly")

VM003-Hi Canvas Spitfire Washed Black ("100% Vegan friendly")

VM003-Lo Sand/Black ("100% Vegan friendly")

VM003-Lo Cord (Dark Brown/White) - corduroy; this one does not say vegan-friendly, but it looks vegan; there also seems to have been a high-top version of this.

The VM003 colourways above are currently on the Last Resort website (as of 6 October 2024). However, I have seen some additional all-canvas colourways:

VM003-Lo Classic Red/White

VM003-Lo Purple Haze/White

VM003-Hi Purple Haze/White

VM003-Lo Cracked Black/White

VM003-Hi Cracked Black/White

VM003-Lo Cracked Blue/White

VM003-Lo Graphite

VM003-Lo Leaf Green/Black

VM003-Lo x Dancer White

VM003-Lo Cord (Black/White) - corduroy; it looks vegan

What is the sizing like?

Short answer: The sizing seems to be similar to Sole Tech (éS, Etnies, Emerica) and Vans, but the shoes may fit a little bit smaller.

Unfortunately, sizing is something that no one seems to agree on.

Last Resort have this size chart that converts centimetres to shoe sizes (US male, US female, UK, and European).

VM001 compared to the Emerica "Vulcano" US size 9

VM001 compared to the Etnies Sheep (I think, this shoe is called "RLS") US size 9

VM001 compared to the Etnies Slip-on US size 9
